Whether young or old, women everywhere seek remedies for the bags under their eyes, the crow’s feet at the corners and under eye wrinkles. From tea bags to cucumber slices, essential oils to just drinking more water, women have tried it all. While a young woman can satisfy her need with enough rest and some moisturizing cream, most women turn to concealer and foundation to address their eye wrinkles.

Under eye wrinkles happen to all women at some point. Taking care of your skin by drinking enough water, avoiding cigarettes and using a moisturizer with SPF are all important and can help prevent or limit your wrinkles. But gravity and father time always have the last word. As women age, they look for longer lasting and easier remedies. Local spas and beauty centers are filling in the gap.

Treatment Options

From remedies that are only skin deep to those that require injections on a regular basis, women are beating gravity and restoring their youthfulness and confidence with these options. They have found numerous ways to address eye wrinkles.

Laser Treatment

Use of laser treatments is known to decrease the appearance of wrinkles while simultaneously improving skin quality and color. There are several types of lasers that can be used depending on your wrinkles and skin type. Either way, recovery can take several weeks as the process requires removing layer(s) of skin, essentially burning them off with minimal heat damage. There can be side effects including swelling and redness and sometimes bruising. There is also a pre-care and post-care regime that is important to prevent complications and infection.

Oftentimes, laser treatment requires several sessions and may require a dermal filler or Botox injection to complete the service. Make sure you get references from the doctor you choose.

Dermal Fillers

Fillers typically do just as their name implies, expand and fill the area where there you have saggy skin or under eye wrinkles. They do not do the job of a “facelift” and are not effective when there is a great deal of sagging skin. The cost will vary depending on how long the filler is predicted to last. Like lasers, there can be some side effects and may require a couple of weeks recovery time for you to see the real results. Do not schedule your fill right before an important event.

The common opinion is that dermal fillers are not always the best treatment for under eye wrinkles. They do not really help if you have loose skin but may be effective with fine lines. However, used in conjunction with other options, dermal fillers are more effective.

Botox

While Botox can be used along side some of the other options, specifically treating the outer corners of the eye. It is not recommended to use Botox alone for under eye wrinkles. While fillers do just that, fill, Botox is a paralyzing chemical and can weaken the muscles under the eye.

While this may not adversely affect some, other women will be pre-disposed to several side effects including droopy lower lids, tears and even pushing fat forward. It does not do any good to eliminate your under-eye wrinkles but then display other malformations.
Botox must be injected by a licensed professional.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion addresses under eye wrinkles by doing two things. First, it exfoliates the top layer of skin. This results in less obvious wrinkles immediately. Second, the process stimulates the production of collagen and therefore, speeds up the skin replacement process. Microdermabrasion can be performed at home with a kit or by a professional.

Cream

We’ve all seen the ads. Whether prescription or all-natural vitamin, creams claim to have a cure for under eye wrinkles. Put it on a night, wake up looking like a teenager again.

And frankly, depending on your age, chemical make-up and reason for your under-eye wrinkles, some of them really might work. But it is always advisable you check with a medical professional before putting a chemical around your eye. Some of the most common creams include those with tretinol, antioxidants and alpha hydroxy acids.

What Will You Choose

Your options are endless in how you address your concerns with under eye wrinkles. There is no one right answer for everyone. And sometimes you must go through a lot of trial and error to determine what works for you. You can learn to “love the skin you are in” or treat them with lasers, buy the latest cream or exfoliate your skin. In the end, what matters, is how you feel about your face.
